RUSSIA: WE WILL NOT GIVE UP THE FIGHT AGAINST TERRORISM

04/03/2020

Serhat TUNAR -TDO- Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said he would not give up the fight against terrorism in Idlib, Syria, in order to resolve the migrant crisis in Europe.

Speaking to reporters after a meeting with his Finnish counterpart in Helsinki, Sergey Lavrov argued that they were fighting terrorism in Idlib. However, Russian President Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor Angela Merkel also spoke on the phone and discussed developments in Idlib. They discussed a planned summit between Turkey and Russia in Moscow on 5 March.

The United Nations says conditions are becoming increasingly difficult for civilians who remain in Syria's Idlib province amid clashes.

More than a million people are said to be living in tents or temporary shelters on the border in southern Turkey. This could be the biggest humanitarian crisis of the war in Syria in the last 9 years.
