Serhat TUNAR -TDO- Russia has announced the introduction of a new hypersonic assault weapon capable of exceeding 27 times the speed of sound. A report by the Russian Defense Ministry to President Vladimir Putin said the hypersonic glider, dubbed 'Avant-Garde', had been mounted on missiles and was ready for use.
Putin first mentioned the avant-garde in March 2018, explaining that he saw the missile as equivalent to the technological breakthrough that took place in 1957 when the former Soviet Union sent its first satellite into space.
The Avangard, which can be mounted on an intercontinental ballistic missile, has the ability to track an unpredictable route, unlike a normal warhead, after it departs from retaliation. It makes very sharp maneuvers on its way to its target, making it almost impossible for it to be tracked by missile defense systems.
Russia's hypersonic weapon, produced from a new heat-resistant composite material, can withstand 2 thousand degrees of heat caused by friction in the atmosphere and can carry a nuclear weapon weighing two megatons.
