Serhat TUNAR -TDO- Russian people are preparing for a constitutional referendum to be held between July 25 June and July 1. President Vladimir Putin has announced that he can be a candidate again, if the constitutional amendment is approved.
The referendum will put the constitutional arrangements, including the amendment, which will allow Putin to continue his current post for two more six-year terms, to the public's vote.
The government argues that changes are necessary to strengthen Parliament's powers. The opposition claims the referendum was held to keep Putin in power until 2036, when his term expires in 2024.
