Selin ATAY-TDO- According to the Iranian Presidency, Rouhani met in Tehran yesterday with Josep Borrell, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Relations and security policy, and made assessment about the nuclear deal
Reiterating Iran's readiness to cooperate with the EU to resolve the problems, "Iran will return to its commitments if the counterparty remains fully committed to its promises." Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said.
"Iran's suspension of its commitments in the nuclear deal was meant to protect this agreement," Rouhani said. He also argued that the unilateral departure of the United States posed major obstacles to other countries ' full implementation of the nuclear deal."
Rouhani added that they remained committed to the process of supervision by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and that process would continue if they did not meet the new conditions.
Josep Borrell said that cooperation between the EU and Iran is important for the development of peace and stability in the region. "We must try to solve the problems by implementing the nuclear agreement. I am sorry that EU countries have failed to implement their promises in the nuclear deal” he said.
EU countries want to preserve and keep the nuclear deal, Borell said, adding that he would do all he could in this direction.
