Aslıhan DOĞRU -TDO- A 7.7 magnitude earthquake occurred in the Caribbean Sea.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake occurred 10 kilometres deep between Cuba, Jamaica and the Cayman Islands.
On the other hand, the earthquake which was also felt in Miami, USA, caused the public to evacuate buildings and take to the streets.
The International Tsunami Information Centre warned of a tsunami immediately after the earthquake. But later withdrew the warning, saying the danger has passed.
Despite the magnitude of the earthquake, there were no casualties or damage, according to initial information from the authorities in the region.
Miami police also said there were no casualties or injuries due to the quake. "It was a very large earthquake that could produce a lot of seismic energy," geologist Ryan Gold of the US Geological Survey told the Miami Herald.
