NICOLAS SARKOZY TO BE ON TRIAL

Serhat TUNAR -TDO- In France, former President Nicolas Sarkozy's appeal in the "Bygmalion corruption" case was rejected by the Court of Cassation.

The Supreme Court ruled that the prosecution of Sarkozy in the criminal court would begin with certainty for allegedly providing illegal financial resources to the presidential election campaign.

The former president is accused of fraud in the 2012 presidential election, along with Bygmalion's public relations company, issuing fake invoices on campaign costs.

Sarkozy will face a one-year prison sentence and a fine of 3 thousand 750 Euro’s. Sarkozy along with the trial will face 13 more judges.

Nicolas Sarkozy is accused of exceeding the costs of the election campaign in France with a limit of 20 million Euro’s. The former president, on the other hand, says that the Constitutional Court made the final decision in 2013 and made the necessary penalties, saying that it could not be punished twice on the same issue.
