İrem GÖL -TDO- The Health Minister of Brazil has resigned in less than a month since he was appointed for the position. President Bolsonaro fired the former health minister Luiz Mendetta on 16th of April due to the disagreements over how to cope with the coronavirus pandemic in the country. The health minister Nelson Teich did not provide any details of the reason for leaving.
After Mendetta's dismission, Teich initially seemed to have a similar stance as Bolsonaro towards the measures to contain the virus. However, in recent weeks, he disagreed publicly with the line of Bolsonaro who did not support the social isolation measures and was in favour of not stopping the economy.
Brazil reported 824 new deaths increasing the total number to 14,817. The country is suffering from the 6th biggest number of coronavirus cases in the world with 218,223 infected people with new 15,305 cases in the last 24 hours.
