NATO is ready to deploy four "robust multinational battalions" in the three Baltic countries and Poland for deterrence against Russia. The planning has already been decided by the military.The confirmation that the Alliance will deploy four battalions was given by the Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg, specifying that in every case, the command will not be entrusted to the local armed forces. Among the details to be clarified are the countries that will provide the bulk of the four battalions within the role of 'framework nations'. Germany and Britain have already signalled availability for presence in Lithuania and Estonia respectively, for those in Latvia and Poland it could be the United States.
