Serhat TUNAR -TDO- United States Defense Secretary Mark Esper announced that United States troops had completed the withdrawal from northeast Syria and that the remaining 600 troops were also deployed in safe areas. Esper also stated that Turkey is an important member of NATO and that they should keep Turkey in NATO.
Trump's instruction to withdraw troops has so far reduced the number of troops the United States has had in Syria from 1,000 to 40 percent.
The maneuverability in Syria would be maintained, Esper said, adding that there could be changes in the number of troops according to the need, but that the number of troops would remain around 600.
The United States could further reduce the number of troops in the region if European allies provide support, he said, adding that some of its allies would like to see troops sent to the region voluntarily.
