JAPAN-OWNED WARSHIP SAILS INTO GULF OF OMAN

Serhat TUNAR -TDO- The warship, owned by Japan, is on its way to the Gulf of Oman to secure oil coming into the country by sea following rising tensions in the Middle East.

"Thousands of Japanese ships and tankers are carrying 9 out of 10 of our country's oil needs through this sea, “Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said during a ceremony at Yokosuka Naval Base near Tokyo. This is the lifeblood of the country.”

An earlier statement by the Japanese government said it was preparing to authorize the use of force to protect oil tankers in the event of danger.

The destroyer, named Takanami, will then be joined by two more Japanese patrol vessels. These ships will patrol independently, separate from Japan's ally the United States ' Navy in the region.

The reason for this is that Japan has good relations with Iran in the region, as opposed to the United States.
