Serhat TUNAR -TDO- Italian media coverage of Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio's meeting with UMH President Fayez Serraj in Tripoli, the Libyan capital, on Tuesday. Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio asked Fayez Serraj, head of the National Reconciliation Government (UMH), to freeze military cooperation with Turkey during a visit to Libya last Tuesday, La Stampa newspaper reported.
La Stampa newspaper shared the rationale for the Italian Foreign Minister's visit to Libya as 'preventing possible military intervention by Turkey' and 'calling on the UMH leadership to end the memorandum of understanding on the limitation of maritime jurisdictions signed with Turkey'.
The newspaper also claimed that Di Maio had made clear in his talks with UMH officials and stressed that Turkey should not intervene militarily.
Turkey's possible military intervention is a common concern among Rome, Paris and Berlin, despite their differing stances on the Libyan crisis, the newspaper said.
