Selin ATAY-TDO-Palestinians protested against Israeli police's decision yesterday to raid and close Palestinian institutions in occupied East Jerusalem.
At a demonstration in the Old City area of East Jerusalem, activists reacted to Israel's closure of the Er-Rasasi Masjid with the Education Directorate of the Jerusalem Islamic Waqf administration.
The group, including teachers and students, carried remittances that read "our schools are the gates of Masjid Al Aqsa" and "no to the arrest of the director of Education."
Israeli police and the domestic intelligence service Shin-Bet (Shabak) raided Palestinian institutions in occupied East Jerusalem yesterday on the grounds that they were "linked to the Palestinian Authority."
Israel also closed the Er-Rasasi Mosque, which is opposite the Parliament gate of Masjid-i Aqsa, for 6 months on the grounds that" some parts of it are used as offices by the Directorate of Education " and detained the director of Education.
After US President Donald Trump announced in December 2017 that he had recognized Jerusalem "as the capital of Israel," Israeli authorities increased their abuses and crackdown on Palestinian institutions in Jerusalem and leading figures in the Palestinian community.
