Serhat TUNAR -TDO- During ongoing anti-government demonstrations in the southern Iraqi city of Najaf, protesters set the building belonging to the Iranian consulate general on fire.
As the events grew, a statement from the Najaf Operations Command announced that a curfew had been declared in the entire city. Information on how long the ban will last was not shared.
However, clashes between demonstrators and security forces were reported in the southern cities of Musenna, Qadisiya and Zikar, along with Baghdad, the Iraqi capital, and dozens of demonstrators were injured. Thursday (today) in Qadisiya was declared a public holiday.
Demonstrators in Najaf had earlier set the Iranian consulate building on fire.
