Robert HARNEIS -TDO- (FRANCE) - The Iranian Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) claim to have taken control of 7 or 8 US drone vehicles operating in Syria and Iraq, IRGC Aerospace Force Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh said adding that the IRGC extracted intelligence data from the aircraft. The IRGC media also released videos confirming its claims.
The Iranian news agency “Fars” has released a video showing that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard penetrated US military drone operating in Syria and Iraq and claimed to have obtained important secret intelligence information.
Fars reported on Thursday that the video confirms the statements made by Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Aerospace Force Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, that several US aircrafts were under IRGC’s control after penetrating into the US command centers in Syria and Iraq.
“Seven to eight drones that had constant flights over Syria and Iraq were brought under our control and their intel was monitored by us and we could gain their first-hand intel,” General Hajizadeh said on Thursday.
“The video shows IRGC’s penetration into US Army’s Command Center,” the agency said.
The video also includes footage showing a US flying drone starts malfunctioning and makes a rough landing in a desert area 10 kilometers away from its base. The United States denied the Iranian version and claimed that the drone pilot lost control of the aircraft.
The US troops avoid approaching the malfunctioning drone as they are not sure who is controlling the aircraft, and hence sent a manned aircraft to bomb the drone, Fars Agency said. According to the Russian news service Sputnik, the video dates from 2016.
Like other governments the Iranians are not above putting out false claims to boost morale. On the other hand, through their close military partnership with China and Russia there is no reason why they would not have the necessary technology.
In 2011 the Iranians took over control of an American Lockheed Martin RQ-170 Sentineldrone and landed it in Iran near the City of Kashmar in north east of the country. President Obama asked for its return but the Iranians refused and claimed to have reverse engineered it to build their own. They also no doubt shared the information gained with Russia and China.
