İlknur Şebnem Öztemel-TDO 11.04.2017 - Sebastian Gorka, a White House Deputy assistant to President Donald Trump, proposed Libya to be divided into three during a meeting with a senior European official,
According to the Guardian, Gorki specifically suggested the country be divided into three areas based on three old Ottoman provinces: Cyrenaica in the east, Tripolitania in the northwest and Fezzan in the southwest.
It has been asserted that the European official responded as the idea would be "the worst solution" for the ailing state.
What is interesting here is: while many Western experts criticize Ottoman style of ruling, denigrate those times and export anonymity for Ottoman history and most importantly for Turks & Turkey, why a senior U.S. officer requested the worst imitation of it? Then, why does the West encouraged and even applied carrot &stick policies for those states to be more like ‘’them’’ for about a century and put forward to rule the region ‘’in the best way’’? Now, people want their ‘’ united’’ state as they got used to it and live peacefully in it, without facing terrorist threats and fights.
Muammar Gaddafi was overthrown in 2011. Since then, political power in the country has been split between two rival governments: the Council of Deputies centralized in Tobruk and the Tripoli-based General National Congress. After the sign of UN-brokered Libyan Political Agreement in December 2015, a Government of National Accord has been established in the county and started its duty in late March 2016.
