Serhat TUNAR -TDO- Former American diplomats claimed that if the United States administration withdrew from the country without reconciling the Taliban and the Afghan government, Afghanistan could be dragged into a civil war and could once again become a haven for terrorists.
Many ambassadors in Afghanistan who wrote an article on the Atlantic Council think tank and have served in Afghanistan since 2001 under the Democrats and Republicans stressed that Donald Trump should not withdraw troops quickly.
The diplomats also state that the US administration should not allow ISIS and other extremists to operate and give the Afghan people the chance to live under a democratic government.
"The reduction of the number of American troops in the first place should not give the Taliban a sense of military victory," warns the article, which was jointly signed by a total of 9 senior diplomats, and states that "the withdrawal of troops must depend on ultimate peace."
The US Department of State has not yet commented on the issue.
