Serhat TUNAR -TDO- Oliver Varhelyi, Hungary's nominee for enlargement of the European Commission, failed to gain the approval of the European parliamentarians after 3 hours of interviews. Varhelyi is said to have been challenged, especially in the face of questions about Turkey and the Western Balkan countries.
Varhelyi refrained from answering some of the questions of European parliamentarians, although he stated that he would follow the rules of the European Union to the letter, his answers were not enough to convince parliamentarians.
Some parliamentarians expressed the view that Turkey has seriously violated several international rules in recent years, demanding that Varhelyi be proved unaffected by the Orban government, which supports Turkey.
Varhelyi had previously stated that he had worked independently for European institutions for four years, and that he would not allow any government intervention, and that he would follow the rules of the European Union to the letter.
