EU WARNS MALTA: ‘PRIME MINISTER MUST LEAVE THE POST IMMEDIATELY’

Serhat TUNAR -TDO- The warning to Malta from the European Union about the scandal of murdered journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia has come.

A delegation to the European Parliament, which is on a two-day visit to Malta, said Maltese Prime Minister Joseph Muscat should urgently contradict the mandate.

Addressing reporters ' questions after meeting with Justice Secretary Owen Bonnici and Prime Minister Muscat, Sophie in't Veld, head of the European Parliament delegation, said her concerns had not been addressed. Muscat, the prime minister who has defended himself over the murder, recently announced he would leave his post in January to allow time for the Labour Party to elect a new leader.

However, the European Union Commission also warned Malta of an investigation into the Galizia assassination. The union demanded that the investigation into the assassination be concluded without any political interference.

In a written statement from a spokeswoman for the European Union Commission, Commission Vice President Vera Jourova spoke on the phone with Maltese Justice Minister Owen Bonicci. Jourova conveyed to his interlocutor that the investigation should be concluded without any political interference and his concerns about political developments in Malta.
