Serhat TUNAR -TDO- A General Assembly of the European People's party (EPP) was held in Zagreb, Croatia.
At the General Assembly, where the EPP's representatives from 40 countries voted, current European Union Council President Donald Tusk was elected to the presidency with 93 percent of the vote.
"On the one hand there are irresponsible populist parties and on the other hand there is the responsible Populist Party EPP," Tusk said, recalling that he would leave his position as Council President of the European Union at the end of November. I am ending my mission to be one of Europe's most important bureaucrats. I'm ready to fight. I hope you guys are ready," he said.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who attended the General Assembly, thanked current EPP President Joseph Daul for his activities and se said they wanted to build bridges in Europe, which was also a mandate of the EPP. Merkel added that she wished success to both EPP and Ursula von der Leyen in this context.
