İlknur Şebnem Öztemel-TDO- On March 22, foreign ministers from 68 countries will meet in Washington to agree on the next steps to defeat Islamic State. This will be the first multilateral meeting between the members of US-led military coalition since the election victory of President Donald Trump in November. The meeting will be hosted by U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.
Additionally, leaders not only talk about the attempt to retake Mosul and Raqqa, but also they will allegedly debate current chaotic situation in Libya where is encircled with terrorist webs after the fall of Muammar Gaddafi.
Two days ago Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi visited Trump in his office. The two, talked about the fight against terror in Iraq. After the visit he said that the new American administration had assured him that American support would be expanded. In his speech, Abadi said, “We have been given assurances that the support will not only continue but will accelerate” in United States Institute of Peace.
Trump decided to focus on the fight against terror, a subject that was not referred in his presidential campaign, directed Pentagon and other agencies to submit a plan for defeating the militant group in January.
Currently,eastern Mosul is saved from Deash, Turkish-led Free Syrian Army soldiers advanced on the ground and the clashes between the regime and opposition continues in the western side of the country.
