Nine Singaporean armoured troop carriers which are coming from Taiwan, impounded in Honk Kong harbour. China's nationalist state-owned tabloid, has warned that Singapore's "hypocrisy" over its military relationship with Taiwan could harm bilateral relations with China. An interpreter called Ai Jun ( a homonym for "love the army) argued that "It is no longer reasonable for Singapore to continue... any kind of military exchange with Taiwan.’’ Singapore and Taiwan have a longstanding military relationship that began in the 1970s and Taiwan being used as grounds for Singaporean infantry training. Also Singapore is helping to US in its China containment strategy by allowing U.S. forces to be stationed at the Changi Naval Base. China- Singapore relations re-emerged in 1990s. China tolerated close military ties between Taiwan and Singapore for over 20 years. All these events are adding suspicions that Singapore is working against the "one China" principle.
