CHINA SAYS IT WON'T TAKE PART IN NUCLEAR DISARMAMENT NEGOTIATIONS

Selin ATAY-TDO-Fu Cong, Director General of China's Foreign Ministry Arms Control Department, said China is ready to reduce its nuclear weapons arsenal, "but we do not intend to participate in disarmament negotiations between the United States and Russia."  he added.

In a speech at a Nuclear Non-proliferation conference in the capital Moscow, Fu Cong addressed the disarmament talks between Russia and the United States.

By stating that It is very important that Russia and the United States reduce their nuclear weapons, he said " because these arsenals are huge. They are far more than any other country that has nuclear weapons. We therefore call for continued talks between the United States and Russia on Disarmament."

It is highlighted that China is also ready to reduce its nuclear weapons arsenal. “If other countries reduce their arsenals to the level that China has, we are ready to participate in the process. But we do not intend to participate in disarmament negotiations between the United States and Russia." He said.

"Such initiatives take away from the main goal," said Fu, explaining that the United States did not find the right way to engage China in disarmament negotiations with Russia. The US is just making excuses to get out of a major international agreement." in his assessment.
