BELARUSIAN POLITICIAN MARIA KOLESNIKOVA IS THOUGHT TO HAVE BEEN KIDNAPPED

Serhat TUNAR -TDO- Maria Kolesnikova, a Belarusian politician, is alleged to have been kidnapped by unidentified people in the middle of the city of Minsk and has not been heard from. Kolesnikova's lawyers are concerned that she and two of her advisers may have been kidnapped.

Since Monday (September 7th) at 10.00 am Kolesnikova and her two advisers could not be reached, according to Gleb German, a spokesman for another opposition candidate, Viktor Babariko, who was blocked from participating in the election and was jailed while Kolesnikova's lawyers and relatives continued their search.

The first reaction on these developments came from Linas Linkevicius, the Foreign Minister of Lithuania, Belarus ' border neighbor. Linkevicius said that the Belarusian government has eliminated opponents one by one, and that this is an embarrassing situation, and that there are days in the history of the country that will be called a black mark.
