İrem UZUN -TDO- The Armenian Ministry of Defense reported that an Armenian jet was shot down by a Turkish warplane. According to the Armenian Ministry of Defense, an Armenian Sukhoi Su-25 was shot down by a Turkish F-16 that took off from the Ganja Airbase in Azerbaijan. The Armenian Unified Infocenter, managed by the Armenian government, said in a statement that an F-16 fighter jet belonging to the Turkish military took off from Ganja Airbase in Azerbaijan at 10:30 am local time.
As a response, Armenia declared that they will use Russian aircrafts against Turkey’s F-16 jets. The Armenian ambassador to Russia Vardan Toganyan said on Monday that “all measures, including the Islanders,” were on the table if Ankara deployed its American-built F-16 fighter jets in support of the Azeri offensive.
The allegation of downing the jet was “absolutely untrue,” said Fahrettin Altun, communications director for Turkey’s president. Azerbaijani officials called it “another fantasy of the Armenian military propaganda machine.”
Turkey supports Azerbaijan in the conflict, with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan urging Armenia to withdraw immediately from the occupied region. Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said Turkey is “by Azerbaijan’s side on the field and at the (negotiating) table,” Cavusoglu said after a visit to Azerbaijan’s Embassy in Ankara.
