Selin ATAY-TDO- US President Donald Trump aims to empower the US-backed normalization agreements between Israel and the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain with the introduction of direct flights between Israel and Morocco.

Morocco is considered an ally of the United States but there are no formal relations between Rabat and Jerusalem, except the fact that Israeli tourist are allowed into the Morocco.

Though it is said that establishing a diplomatic tie between Israel and Morocco failed some time ago, Washington was hoping direct flights was achievable since it is more limited gesture.

Apart from the Morocco, the television report said US is working on to add Oman and Sudan to the countries who forge diplomatic ties with Israel, as a part of Trump’s November 3 election campaign.

Last month Moroccan Prime Minister Saad-Eddine El Othmani said his country would not sign a normalization deal with with Israel. However, after couple of days Moroccan PM modified his statement, saying his comments in opposition to forging diplomatic ties were made in his capacity as leader of the Islamist PJD party, not as prime minister.

Establishing formal diplomatic relations with Israel could also improve Morocco's relations with the United States. The TV report said Rabat demanded America to recognize its sovereignty over disputed Western Sahara territory in exchange for signing a normalization agreement with Israel.
