Serhat TUNAR -TDO-Algeria's interim president, Abdelkader Bensalah, said he would do his best to organize the elections happen in 90 days with an independent national commission to be formed.
Abdelkader Bensalah, an ally of Bouteflika's, spoke on national television hours after his appointment as Algeria's interim president brought immediate protests. In the streets of the capital, protesters who want the country's established political hierarchy dismantled shouted, "Out with the system."
Bensalah, the head of the upper house of the Algerian Parliament, vowed to establish a "sovereign" body to organize a presidential election within 90 days.
Bensalah congratulated the security forces during the protests in the country, and thanked the armed forces for trying to get out of the crisis in Algeria.
