Hassam Hameed-TDO-05.12.2017- US President Donald Trump is to announce his decision this Wednesday, whether US embassy would be moved to Jerusalem. Jared Kushner is thought to be lobbying for it, which has raised concerns in the Arab world especially in Palestine who want east Jerusalem to be its capital.
Every US president since 1995 have delayed the plans to move the embassy, saying ‘time is not riped’ for such a decision yet. But this time it is speculated that Trump might take the decision, as a pro-israeli gesture. Kushner refused to comment on it on Sunday, as he said Mr. Trump is still looking to a lot of facts. Some analysts say this might be a good moment to make such a decision, as Israel and some regional Arab players have become natural allies to a looming threat of Iran.
Jordan’s foreign minister Ayman Safadi said that he US secretary of state Rex Tillerson that such a decision would be detrimental for the peace in the region. Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas have shown strong opposition to it and is rallying international support against to any such decision. This Sunday he called leaders of France and Turkey. Secretary general of Palestine Liberation Organization, Saeb Erekat, said US would "be disqualifying itself to play any role in any initiative towards achieving a just and lasting peace."
