News Center -TDO-TRNC’s Ambassador to Turkey Kemal Köprülü and his spouse Ebru Köprülü hosted a reception at Ankara Sheraton Hotel in consequence of “36th anniversary of establishment of TRNC “.
Minister of National Defence, Hulusi Akar, Chief of Staff General Yaşar Güler, Naval Forces Commander Admiral Adnan Özbal, Air Force Commander General Hasan Küçükyavuz, domestic and foreign mission chiefs, academics, bureaucrats, journalists and guests attended to the reception.
In his opening speech Ambassador Köprülü said "Turkey's unwavering support will be the biggest source of power for the TRNC, stressing," the time has already come and passed for the international community to see the realities on the island and to lift the unfair isolation imposed on the Turkish Cypriot people."
Ambassador Köprülü stated that the Turkish Cypriot people had fought an honorable struggle against Greek-Greek persecution on the island for years, and that this struggle was crowned with the operation of July 20, 1974.
Ambassador Köprülü stated that after the operation, the Turkish Cypriots announced their aspirations to govern themselves to the world in 1983.
He expressed the good intentions of finding a solution based on the political equality of the Greek Cypriots and said that all proposals so far have been rejected by the Greek Cypriots.
Ambassador Köprülü stated " The Greek Cypriot leadership, which had never assimilated the political equality of the Turkish Cypriots, rejected the essential aspects of our political equality such as the rotating presidency and the effective participation of the Turkish Cypriots in the political decision-making mechanism, and managed to bring down this summit by reducing the margin of negotiation to zero with a maximalist thesis like 'zero soldiers, zero guarantees'.”
"The Turkish Cypriot side is committed to the protection of equal rights and interests in the Eastern Mediterranean region and will continue its work without interruption," Ambassador Köprülü stressed that despite the TRNC's calls for an area of cooperation, the Greek Cypriot side prefers the issue of hydro carbons to be an area of tension.
Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar said: "Of course, as a union, the European Union can work on various issues and express its views, but here we expect it to give up its approach which is biased, biased, respects the law of one party's right, including the vital rights of the other party and does not take them seriously, does not care about them."
"It was not easy for our Cypriot brothers, who are an integral part of the Turkish nation, to come to these days," Minister Akar said, reminding that very serious struggles have been given and important costs have been paid
Minister Akar, “for us Cyprus is a really important issue for the state of the Republic of Turkey, is a national issue. It is our view in this way. We have been together with our Cypriot brothers in their righteous struggle until now and we will continue to be the same. No one should doubt it. Today, we are determined to protect and protect the rights and interests of our brothers and sisters with the same feelings and thoughts, just as we did not stay silent at that time and did the necessary actions against these injustices that were exposed. It has to be well understood and well known by everyone. To date, Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus have always expressed their support for peace and stability. He has done everything in the name of peace, peace and he will continue to do. However, we regret that this goodwill, peaceful approach, stability approach is not fully understood by the South, and we regret that what needs to be done is not done in the south, even though you are making every effort for a solution."
Stating that Turkey argues that the protection of equal, sovereign rights and fair sharing of resources in the eastern Mediterranean and Cyprus maritime jurisdictions should be determined by the agreement of all riparian states, Akar said: "this is our thesis from the beginning. In this context, the state of the Republic of Turkey as a guarantor state, together with Greece and the United Kingdom, are the guarantor states and the state of the Republic of Turkey will continue to be the guarantor state. We are determined to fulfill all our rights and responsibilities in this respect as we did yesterday. We continue our activities in the areas authorized by the TRNC or in our own maritime areas. And no one should doubt that."
Akar emphasized that Turkey is in favor of solving the problems in the Aegean, Eastern Mediterranean and Cyprus by showing good neighborly relations, mutual understanding and respect for international law.
"But it should not be understood as a weakness. Our application to international law is of good faith, not of any incapacity. We sincerely expect Greece and the Greek Cypriot administration to act in respect of international law within the framework of good neighborly relations, to try to find a solution to the current problems within this framework, and to contribute to this. We are in favor of Justice, of a just solution. There is a very special and important sea and land area. There are very serious riches here. Therefore, we answer the question of what we can gain together within the framework of agreements reached through mutual negotiations and try to realize this will be much more useful and meaningful for the parties and will be the most important investment for future generations, we have always expressed and continue to bring. We are not imposing, we are not imposing on any issue, and we are open to all kinds of views. But we can't compromise on the principles I'm talking about here. On the one hand, fair sharing of the parties is at stake, on the other hand, international law is at stake, our guarantors are at stake. No one should expect us to leave these things aside and go on a new adventure in any way."
Stating that Turkey is the most important guarantee of peace and stability in the region and will continue to be, Akar said: "We, as Turkey, have always tried to protect both our own rights and interests and the legitimate rights and interests of the TRNC within international law. We have protected and will continue to protect in line with the guarantee and alliance agreements. It is out of the question for us to give up the guarantee and alliance agreements,” he made his assessment.
Akar, referring to the peace Fountain operation in his speech, said that the borders show their best efforts to ensure the safety of the people day and night, without saying summer and winter. Akar underlined that all neighbors, especially Syria, are respectful of their territorial integrity.
Stressing that their targets were only terrorists, Akar said: "We have no problem with any ethnic group, Arabs, Kurds, Aramis, Chaldeans, Christians and Jews. Our only struggle is the terrorists, "he said.
He added that the PKK and the YPG are the same terrorist organization and that the PKK/YPG are not in any way representative of the Kurds, adding that ISIS does not represent Muslims and Islam.
Akar said that Turkey wishes to do its fight against terrorism with its allies, especially the United States, but was left alone to fight against terrorists, saying, "We conduct our fight honorably in a manner that depends on our national, spiritual, professional values and respects. We are not in any way involved in chemical and ethnic cleansing and the violation of human rights, and we are not allowed to do so. We see that these are disinformation made by terrorists that the answer is given instantly by our relevant institutions and organizations, and that false news is put into their eyes in a way that is understood by everyone. At the end of this the facts came out but it is clear that there is no embarrassment on the other side, "he said.
Regarding the alleged Armenian genocide allegations, Minister Akar said: "the US archives are witnesses that such a thing did not happen, as are all the archives. Therefore, we advised our friends and interlocutors to look at these issues from the American Archives. When they examine them, they will see that the American archives themselves do not support the Armenian claims in any way. Everyone will see clearly that this is a lie and a lie."
