199TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE INDEPENDENCE OF COSTA RICA

News Centre -TDO- The Ambassador of Costa Rica in Turkey, H. E. Mr. Gustavo Campos Fallas, within the activities of the celebration of the 199th anniversary of the Independence of Costa Rica and the celebration of the 70th Anniversary of the diplomatic relations of Costa Rica - Turkey, placed a wreath in the Mausoleum of the Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, as a show respect to the founder of the Republic of Turkey. In addition, he signed the Book of Guests for the visit.

Withing this same framwork of celebrations, on September 15, on the Independence Day of Costa Rica and as a preamble to the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Costa Rica and Turkey, the emblematic Atakule Tower in Ankara, one of the symbols of the capital city of Turkey, shined with the colors of the Costa Rican flag and beautiful images of the Cental American country.

Costa Rica gained its independence from Spain on September 15, 1821, and nowadays is a leader in the world in conservation (6% of world’s biodiversity), eco-tourism and in the fight against climate change. Costa Rica is working towards becoming one of the first Carbon Neutral Countries in the world by 2050.

Costa Ricas, one of the longest standing democracies in the world, that abolished its army in 1948 and since then them, a legitimate international voice in multilateralism, disarmament, peace and security.
