It all began in the mid-1950s when the bright scientists employed by ARPA, the predecessor to Defence Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) started using their new toys to share information over computer systems and probably to have a little fun. This first structure known as the ARPANet is the ancestor of what we know as the internet today, although they share very few similarities.
