WE MAY FACE WITH MASS EXTINCTION IN 50 YEARS

İlknur Şebnem Öztemel – DG – It has been reported that nearly half the species on the planet are failing to cope with global warming and the sixth mass extinction of animal life in the Earth’s history could take place as soon as 50 years.

Professor John Wiens who is a professor in Arizona University, editor of the Quarterly Review of Biology and a winner of the American Society of Naturalists’ Presidential Award said plants and animals were struggling to deal with the relatively small amount of global warming experienced to date.

In his study which  has been published in PLOS Biology journal , the scientist examined academic papers about 976 different species from all over the world twice, compared the  numbers of  716 different kinds of animals and 260 plants from Europe, Asia, North and South America in the last 50 years.  It has been revealed that 47.1 per cent of 1,000 local extinctions caused by the “warm edge”. Species cannot survive from hot weather.

So far the world has warmed by about 1oC above pre-industrial levels, but it is expected to hit between 2.6 and 4.8oC by 2100 as we continue to live like that.

Besides, Professor Wiens described Trump’ s election victory as “global disaster” and said if he met with Donald Trump, he will request him to kill himself immediately. Donald Trump is a denier of the Global Warming.
