Mustafa AY – TDO – 30.09.2018 US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo put pressure on Myanmar’s government to launch an extensive probe to scrutinize human rights abuses and systematic carnage against Rohingyan Muslims. Secretary Pompeo underscored the gravity of that high-ranking Myanmar’s Army officers should be processed through judicial procedure/prosecution if Myanmar’s authorities find them accountable for systematically committing carnage against Rohingyan Muslims.
On Thursday, Secretary Pompeo met with his Myanmar’s counterpart –Kyav Tint Swe- in 73rd Session of UN General Assembly to discuss controversial issues. During the bilateral talks, Pompeo reportedly told Swe to launch an extensive investigation to reveal those who are accountable for Rohingyan Muslim’s massacre. In addition to this issue, Pompeo requested Swe to immediately release two Reuters journalist, who were sentenced to 7-year imprisonment because of alleged transgression of ‘State Secrets Act’, from the jail.
