İlknur Şebnem Öztemel-TDO-USA, Japan and South Korea have requested an urgent United Nations Security Council consultation on North Korean ballistic missile test fire in Sunday.
North Korea launched a ballistic missile, Pukguksong-2, from an airbase in the western province of North Pyongyang, in Sunday. State-run, Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported that the missile was nuclear-capable and could engage in evasive maneuvers.The missile travelled several hundreds of miles before plunging into the Sea of Japan outside of the Japanese exclusive economic zone.
As a response, South Korea conducted a ballistic missile test too. South Korean Defense authorities said "In response to North Korea's missile launch Sunday, we are reviewing measures to discard security concerns and show our determination to retaliate against any aggression by the North".
Moreover, Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, called North Korean authorities not to increase tensions more, start negotiations and engage in international community.
Both China and Russia condemned North Korea’s military activities and called for their obedience to UN decisions. Spokesperson of Chinese Foreign Affairs Ministry, Geng Shuang, said China is against ballistic missile test that has been done in spite of the UN Security Council decisions.
