UN SETS UP SPECIAL PANEL FOR PREPARATION OF MYANMAR’S ROHINGYA PROSECUTION FILES




Mustafa AY – TDO – 30.09.2018 UN Human Rights Council arranged a session to vote for composition of a panel, which will execute investigation for human rights abuses and terrifying massacres against Rohingyan Muslims in Myanmar. As a result of voting, the panel’s foundation was approved with ‘yes’ vote by 35 members nation of the council against 3 ‘no’ votes. Besides this, 7 nations voted for abstention. Among those 3 nations, Myanmar’s most important regional allies -China, Philippines and Burundi-take place in. 

Once Islamic Cooperation Organisation and European Union filed UN Human Rights Council for commencing judicial inquiry to expose those accountable for mass slaughter campaign against Rohingyan Muslims, which is a case that Myanmar’s government is constantly denying. In accordance with the judicial inquiry, the panel will prepare prosecution file so that they can submit a well and in-depth report/prosecution file to International Criminal Court.
