Mustafa AY – TDO – 30.05.2018 On Monday, UN released an official statement with regards to its humanitarian task coundcted in Yemen, where civil war is about to come in its 4 year. According to the statement, 1.5 million families got monetary assistance worth 200 million dollars by UN. By the virtue of monetary assitance distributed to Yemeni people, 1,5 million needies were temporarily saved from famine. However, this doesn’t change the fact that Yemen is a country of misery stemming from ongoing humanitarian crisis. It is because 10.000 people have been slaughtered since the sectarian armed conflict among Shia Houthis and Yemeni government erupted in 2015. Besides this, 3 million civilian have been displaced as a result of the armed insurrection of Houthis.
Geert Cappelaere – UNICEF Regional Director for Middle East – stated that UN yielded monetary assistance worth 200 million dollars directly to the needy Yemeni families. He said that ongoing monetary support as emergency payout is the second of 3 planned humanitarian assistance packages that World Bank funded. Cappelaere added that third part of humanitarian assistance for Yemeni families in need will be put into effect in August 2018. Cappelaere stated that UN grants 30 dollars per each needy family, which reach 9 million people. Yemeni families spend this money for food and medicine basically.
