Mustafa AY – TDO – 11.08.2018 On Friday, UN General Assembly convened to arrange a session for approval of UN Secretary General’s Antonio Guterres’s appointment to UN High Commission for Human Rights. At the session, General Assembly approved Guterres’s appointment. Antonia Guterres presented Chile’s former President Michelle Bachelet as candidate to UN High Commission for Human Rights. He appointed her to the position as well. However, to be able to come into office, UN General Assembly had to find her sutable for the position and they did so.
Michell Bachelet is the first female President of Chile. Between the years of 2006-2010, she served as the President of Chile. In 2010 when her presidential term finished, she sought for continuing her active political life in UN. So, in 2010-13, she worked as Chief at UN Women Rights. But, when it comes to 2014, Bachelet was re-elected to serve her second term in presidential office, which lasted till 2018. Now, she’s continuing her political career as High Commissioner in charge of Human Rights.
