TURKISH FOREIGN MINISTER MEVLÜT ÇAVUŞOĞLU: “WE EXPECT VISA LIBERALIZATION AT THE LATEST IN OCTOBER 2016”





During his unofficial visit in Crete, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu gave an interview to Kathimerini, which is one of the biggest media organizations in Greece.
Çavuşoğlu mentioned in the interview about the relations between two Aegean neighbors, eight Turkish military members who have sought asylum to Greece after the coup attempt, relations between Ankara and Moscow, solution about the Cyprus issue and the visa liberalization.
Turkish Foreign Minister told Vassilis Nedos from Kathimerini that he sees significant potential for strengthening cooperation between Turkey and Greece.
Speaking about the eight Turkish military members that have sought asylum to Greece, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said Turkey hopes these people will be extradited to Turkey as soon as possible.
About the new era between the relations of Turkey and Russia, Çavuşoğlu stated that building good neighborly relations is among the Turkish foreign policy principles and Turkey showed their intention to put relations with Russia back on track.
Foreign Minister told about the Cyprus issue that as motherland and guarantor, Turkey maintains their commitment for a settlement in Cyprus and believes that if there is political will, a settlement in Cyprus could be possible in 2016.
And lastly Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu mentioned about the visa liberalization. He stated that Turkey cannot continue on its own to stop irregular migration toward the EU while the EU does not assume its obligations. Turkey expects visa liberalization for Turkish citizens at the latest in October 2016.Serhat Tunar
