TRUMP PICKED TILLERSON AS SECRETARY OF STATE

Donald Trump, the newly elected president of the United States, picked Exxon Mobil Corp. chief Rex Tillerson for U.S. secretary of state.

Rex Tillerson, the chief of Exxon Mobil Corp. operating in more than 50 countries, including Russia, is known for his very close ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin. In 2013, Russian President Vladimir Putin awarded him the country's Order of Friendship decoration.

In an interview on Fox News Sunday, Trump defended Tillerson or his work in Russia, calling his global relationships, called him as “a world class player.” Trump also stated that Tillerson’s relationship with Russia as a great advantage. Tillerson, if corfirmed by the US Senate, is expected to demonstrate a diplomatic approach that envisions more cooperation with Russia.

On the other hand, one of the finalists, 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney stated that it was an honor to have been considered for secretary of state of our great country, but he was out of the running. Former Republican Party presidential candidate Mitt Romney called Donald Trump as a "phony" and a "con man" during campaign.
