Serhat TUNAR-TDO- Murdered journalist Jamal Khashoggi has been named Time magazine’s person of the year – alongside several other reporters, including the entire staff of an American newspaper.
According to Time, Khashoggi had dared to disagree with his country’s government and he told the world the truth about its brutality toward those who would speak out. “And he was murdered for it.”
The magazine also honored five staff members of the Capital Gazette newspaper in Annapolis, Maryland who were in June shot dead and killed.
The final two people honored by Time were Reuters reporters Kyaw Soe Oo and Wa Lone, who are currently in prison in Myanmar and “remain separated from their wives and children,”
Last year, women who spearheaded the #MeToo movement were named Time’s person of the year.
In 2015 and 2016 US President Donald Trump and Germany councilor Angela Merkel took the title.
