THE US ADMINISTRATION DECIDES TO REDUCE THE VALUE OF MILITARY AID TO TUNISIA

Adel Tayari TDOUS President Donald Trump's administration has decided to reduce the value of its military aid to Tunisia, this decision will adversely affect the completion of projects programmed in the Tunisian Ministry of Defence.

According to Trump's proposal to the US Congress, in the 2018 budget, Tunisia will be given 54.6 million dollars in financial aid, according to Trump's proposal to the US Congress, in the 2018 budget, Tunisia will be given 54.6 million dollars in financial aid, which representing a decrease of   85.8 million Dollars compared to 2017, Which could be seen as a painful blow   to the Tunisian government, which has high hopes for US aid.

The US decision came at a time when the Tunisian military was working on very expensive projects after receiving promises of support from its friends and allies, including the United States of America. Among these projects securing the border with the neighbours Algeria and Libya, to address the risk of infiltration of militants returning from the battlefields to form terrorist cells.  Tunisian Defence Minister Farhat al-Harshani, on the occasion of the 61st anniversary of the establishment of the Tunisian army (Friday 30 June), confirmed the importance of military equipment and intelligence in combating terrorism to Tunisia.  Farhat Al-Harshani also referred to a project that he said was under update and related to modern electronic control of borders, in order to monitor all suspicious movements, whether for persons or vehicles, especially on the border with Libya.

Many observers believe that the proposal of the administration of President Trump to reduce the military assistance to Tunisia by a large percentage   represents a discouraging message to the only country where the Arab Spring has succeeded,  at a time when Tunisia is seriously seeking to fortify its democratic experience from the dangers of terrorism and instability, for many reasons, the most important of which is that Tunisia's security, stability and growth serve the interests of Washington and Europe and all the enemies of terrorism and friends of democracy everywhere in the world.
