SVETLANA RADIONOVA: WE HAVE TO DRAW ATTENTION TO ABANDONED FACTORY IN SIBERIA

Serhat TUNAR -TDO- Svetlana Radionova, the head of the Russian Natural Resources and Environment Agency, said that an abandoned chemical factory is located in Siberia, and if the plant is not intervened as soon as possible, it could lead to an environmental disaster similar to the Chernobyl nuclear accident.

Svetlana Radionova told the Russian daily Izvestia on Wednesday that the region where the factory is located is already an area of environmental disaster and that a major disaster could happen if urgent action is not taken.

He added that he recently visited the Usolyekhimprom facility, which was abandoned in 2017 due to bankruptcy, and that the factory still contains toxic materials.

The owners of the Usolyekhimprom plant, which produces chlorine and similar chemicals in the Irkutsk region of Siberia, have not yet responded to Radionova's claims.
