Mustafa AY – TDO – 07.10.2017 Against the increa sing presence of USA across the East and Baltic region, Russia is applying USA’s tactic during the Cold War. That is armament of allies that may work to confuse the enemy prospective military maneuvers in the hot region/ Eastern and Northeastern Europe.
Russia decided on delivering heavy military vehicles to Serbia, which is accepted as the closest ally of Russia. In accordance with the deal signed between these two countries in 2016, 6 MİG-29 multirole fighter jets, 30 T-72s main battle tank and 30 BMP-2 with the variations of both armored personnel carrier-type and reconnaissance without charge levied in return, up till 6th of October in 2017.
Through this gratuitous delivery from Russia to Serbia, that Serbia’s new MİG-29’s need to be undergone modernization process is going to cost much to Serbia for sure. That’s why, the donated aircrafts were decommissioned from Russian Air Forces owing to being very prohibitive to overhaul. Instead of that they spend colossal amount of money to them, Serbia will do it, which is going to create a huge income to Russian aerospace company. So, Russia will take its own share from this income under taxation. The estimated charge for modernization of 6 MİG-29s is roughly 230 million dollars.
