Mustafa AY – TDO – 28.07.2018 Saudi Arabia with UAE launched an airstrike on Yemen’s strategically/logistically important port city Al-Hudaydah at midnight. During the airstrike, coalition aircrafts bombarded a military camp, plastic factory and radio station, which reportedly belong to Shia Houthis. Coalition airstrike resulted from the fact that Shia Houthi forces took aim at a military vessel and 2 oil tankers of Saudi Arabia at previous days. Houthis’ offensive campaign against Saudi Arabia’s military and commercial vessels is interpreted as that Iran apparently challenges USA. It is because US President Donald Trump commenced a trade war against Saudi Arabia by requesting Saudi King Salman to purge Saudi Arabia’s oil production per year. US President tried to halt Iran’s oil export to abroad with this move.
Saudi Arabia intesified its air operations on Al-Hudaydah on the grounds that Iran allegedly provides Shia Houthis with logistic support varying from weapons to other military vehicles. Al-Hudaydah port is not merely used for logistical puposes, but also serves for civilian purposes. International aid foundations/institutions can conduct humanitarian aid missions to yield Yemenis, who suffer from sever famishment and poverty, through Al-Hudaydah port.
