Mustafa AY – TDO – 24.12.2017 Russian Defense Ministry surged and upgraded its air defense capabilities in Vladivostok, which is located about 130 km away from N. Korea border. The 1533th Regiment in Vladivostok was previously armed with three S-300SP air defense batteries. However, the increasing tension amid USA and N. Korea urged Russia to deploy its most advanced air defense missile system S-400s, which have capabilities of 600km range, target tracking and simultaneous engagement in comparison to S-300SP with the range of 400km, to Vladivostok.
The regiment commander, Col. Aleksey Morokov gave a statement to the journalist and explained that they needed their air defense batteries to be upgraded with S-400s. Through this advanced system, they can scan Russian and even N. Kore’s air space, which is a prominent feature playing core role in raising operational awareness of Russian army in the region.
