QATAR LAUNCHED WTO PROCEEDING AGAINST SAUDI ARABIA

Mustafa AY – TDO – 03.10.2018 Doha administration has just launched legal proceedings against Riyadh administration at World Trade Organisation on the grounds that Riyadh allegedly transgressed internationally-operating Qatar-based entertainment broadcaster ‘beIN’s intellectual property rights. Qatari Economy and Commerce Minister es-Sani accused Saudi authorities of hampering beIN’s services within the Kingdom. Furthermore, es-Sani claimed that Riyadh leads beIN to suffer from piracy, which emerges from lack of official precautions that Saudi Arabia has to take for prevention of such a possible crime. In face of Doha’s claims, Riyadh administration denied the allegations by stating that they took all essential measures to dispel any attempts that hackers made against intellectual property rights of beIN and other foreign broadcasters.
