Mustafa AY – TDO – 24.06.2018 Before the presidential election in July 20, Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa focused on his election campaign. On Saturday, he addressed his proponents who fulled a stadium to support Mnangagwa. In the midst of his election speech, an explosion rocked the stadium suddenly. Right after the explosion, Zimbabwean security forces evacuated President Mnangagwa from the stadium in order to avert prospective attack on President.
After the incident, Presidential Spokesman George Bulwayo said that President Mnangagwa took no physical damage from the explosion. The explosion may be an assassination attempt, Spokesman added. Even if there is no proof substantiating Spokesman’s claims, police investigation goes on to reveal whether it is an attack or unexpected accident.
In November 2017, Zimbabwe was shocked with military coup d’etat. Zimbabwean Army struggled for overthrowing former President Robert Mugabe and apparently accomplished. President Mnangagwa superseded Mugabe effective immediately.
