Mustafa AY – TDO – 10.08.2018 Poland President Andrzej Duda made remarks that he will veto legislative proposal to amend election rules, which Rule and Justice Party (PiS) passed in the parliament in July. President Duda rationalized the act of veto with these words: “Poland has no need to constrain EU Parliament elections. The law proposal of PiS Party inevitably impedes represantation of all minor political parties which stands a chance of going to Brussel. So, it is opposing to democratic principles.”
Rule and Justice Party nominated President Duda to the 2015 presidential election. Once Duda was elected to the office, he suprisingly opted for leaving PiS Party to become independent. Even though President Duda chose to sustain his political life independently, he’s received support from Rule and Justice Party, especially on the matter of ‘judicial reform’. However, both sides’ve recently come into disagreement because President Duda performed his veto right against the law proposal aimed at demoting Soviet-era officials, which was made by PiS Party’s veteran leader Jaroslaw Kaczyński in March 2018.
