PERU’S FORMER PRESIDENT SEEKS ASYLUM AT EMBASSY OF URUGUAY




Mustafa AY – TDO – 21.11.2018 Peru’s former President Alan Garcia has requested political asylum at embassy of Uruguay on account of allegations of corruption. Garcia has been accused of taking bribery from Brazilian construction giant ‘Odebrecht’ and collusive tendering. For these accusations, Peru court launched investigation to uncover whether the accusations are based on reality. Since the investigations has just been commenced, the court barred Garcia from leaving the country. In face of these charges, Garcia denied all charges. As his final words, Garcia stated that he is victim of political persecutions.
