PARTY HEADQUARTERS OPENED ON SADIK AHMET’S BIRTHDAY

The Friendship Equality and Peace Party (FEP), which was founded on September 12th 1991 by the late Dr. Sadýk Ahmet, leader of the Western Thrace Turkish minority, opened its new headquarters with a ceremony.
At the opening ceremony which was attended by thousands of citizens of Turkish origin in Greece, FEP party chairman Mustafa Ali Çavuþ said “We are under pressures here. We are trying to lead our lives as third class citizens. We have only one bullet left to fire, and that bullet is our historical tolerance.”
“WE ARE READY TO PAY ANY PRICE”
Çavuþ also said “We have to put this party on solid foundations. We used to think that the FEP was just as strong as any party in the region. But we saw that it is stronger on May 25th 2014. The headquarters was a necessity for the FEP. We used to hold even our central committee meetings in hotels. Now this is not just the headquarters of the FEP, but a home to all minority organisations and the minority. Our doors are open to all. We had set up a Sadýk Ahmet corner here, to continue the memory of our late leader. We brought the car in which he was killed in 1995 here. Unfortunately, a shadow was cast on our democracy when people who could not tolerate this took away the car. The organisation responsible has distributed some flyers in Gümülcine (Komotini). I want to tell them that what they are doing is harming Greece. It is a shadow cast on democracy. We will continue towards our end. If they want to do good by the country, let them give us our rights arising from the Treaty of Lausanne. Let them see us as equal citizens. Then good will be done for Greece and for democracy. Such actions cannot separate us from our cause. When we set out with our friends we accepted that we are ready to pay any price. We will stand by our cause until we get results.”
“IF SADIK IS DEAD, HE WILL BE REPLACED BY THOUSANDS”
Speaking at the ceremony, FEP Honorary President Iþýk Ahmet said “On the day Sadýk died, we said ‘If Sadýk is dead, he will be replaced by thousands’. We learned courage, perseverance, honesty and struggle from him. When I look out to you today, when I see that our people are with us, I, like Sadýk, say that we should struggle ceaselessly. The most precious memento of Sadýk has been taken from us. This is breaking and entering. We want the Greek state, even the prime minister personally, to take an interest in this problem and for the car to returned as soon as possible. That car contained our memories and as my daughter said, the blood and memories of Dr. Sadýk Ahmet and our tears. We want the car to be returned.”
