PALESTINIAN LEADER MAHMOUD ABBAS VISITS RUSSIA




Hassam Hameed-TDO-13.02.2018- Two weeks after visit of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas visits Moscow in order to gain support of it over recent US declaration of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. President Donald Trump said in recent interview to Israeli newspaper said that Israeli settlements are making things complicated in order to reach peace.

Palestinians believe that US has lost its status of a neutral member to broker a peace deal between Israel and Palestine. As US and Russian relation is its all times low since the cold war era, Mr. Abbas believes that Russia might do something in favor of Palestine in order to provoke US further. Although some analysts believe that not much would be gained from his recent trip to Russia.

Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov said that he believes US has worsen the situation by declaring Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and chances of making the countries resume talks has reached “close to zero”.

Mr. Trump in his recent interview answered a question about settlement to newspaper as "We will be talking about settlements. The settlements are something that very much complicates and always have complicated making peace, so I think Israel has to be very careful with the settlements".
